The Oilliphéist is a lake-dwelling, flying, dragon-like monster which features in the mythology of Ireland. Its name comes from two Gaelic words: oll, meaning great, and péist, fabulous beast or reptile. Oilliphéist and other legends of Ireland such as the Caoránach, and the Copóg Phádraig are involved in stories with St. Patrick.
